# Pulling counterfeit apps impersonating a travel brand

> Fake apps using a travel company's brand were skimming card details. Fraudox got them removed from the stores and third-party APK mirrors.

**Sector:** Travel & E-commerce | **Threat:** Counterfeit app | **Region:** Asia Pacific | **Client:** Online travel platform (anonymised)

## Outcome at a glance

| Measure | Result |
| --- | --- |
| Apps taken down | 9 |
| Stores + mirrors | 3 |
| Confirmed offline | 100% |

## The challenge

Counterfeit apps carrying the company's name and logo had appeared on a major app store and several third-party APK mirrors. The apps mimicked the booking flow to capture payment-card details. The brand needed them gone before they accumulated installs and reviews that lent them credibility.

## How it was handled

### 1. Document the infringement and the harm

We captured the trademark misuse plus the malicious behaviour (the card-skimming endpoint), so reports carried both an IP claim and a user-safety claim.

### 2. File across store and mirror layers

Official store takedowns were filed alongside reports to the third-party mirrors and their hosting providers, so removed apps couldn't simply persist on the mirrors.

### 3. Confirm removal end to end

Each listing was re-checked until it returned a not-found state, and the distribution URLs verified offline.

## Outcome

All nine counterfeit apps were removed across the store and mirror sites, every distribution URL confirmed offline. The card-skimming infrastructure lost its delivery channel within days of filing.

## The service behind this

[Counterfeit app removal](https://fraudox.com/app-takedown): Apps published under your name or a near copy of it. A separate track from the web: it runs through Apple and Google developer-dispute processes, which want different evidence.
